Sign up for the 2020 Campion Trophy Knock out Now Live+ Updates on Forthcoming Events in the OSGS 2020 Calendar

Dear All OSGS Members,

You can now sign up on our website for this year’s Campion Trophy Knock Out Trophy. The £20 Entry Fee goes towards paying the expenses in relation to the Final which is played at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in October each year. The 2019 winner, Will Campion, will try and defend his title and last year we had a record entry of players. Sign Up via Matches & Meeting or via the Fasti.

Sunday 22 March 2020 OSGS Match versus The Schools’ at Hawkstone Park, Shropshire.  This Fixture has moved to the start of the year now to accommodate The Schools’ Fasti and I hope it might attract some additional interest from OSGS members to play. It is a fun day playing pupils and staff and we have an early evening light supper in the Hawkstone Hotel after the golf. The new Golf Clubhouse should be open – so this is your chance to see it. I still need six more players to sign up for this Fixture – Visit Matches & Meetings to sign up

Good News for those OSGS Members over 75 years of age – Following feedback I have decided that any OSGS Member who is over 75 years of age will always be able to play off a Forward Tee in any of our Meetings in 2020 to help them make some of the long carries from Tees to Fairways – We will review the success of this Trial at the end of this year. Doubtless, you’ll give me some feedback!

Both our OSGS Spring Meetings are now Live on the website for Sign Up

South Meeting at Denham on Thursday 26 March 2020

North Meeting at Royal Liverpool GC, Hoylake on Friday 17 April 2020

Tuesday 12 May 2020 OSGS Meeting at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey. This is a “special one off OSGS Meeting” to which all OSGS members are invited to play to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shrewsbury winning the Halford Hewitt in 1980 when it was played at Walton heath. We will have coffee/bacon rolls, followed by individual 4 ball golf, followed by lunch in the clubhouse, followed by foursomes golf in the afternoon, if you wish, and afternoon tea before we depart. We will play both courses at Walton Heath and this promises to be a very special day in our calendar this year – so if you have never played these fantastic courses put the date  in your diary now.

24th Grand Scottish Tour Tuesday 9th June to Thursday 11th June 2020. This year we are playing individual golf at The Glen Golf Club, East Links at North Berwick on the Tuesday ; The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers at Muirfield on Wednesday where we will play foursomes both am and pm with lunch in between or you can just play one half of the day – ladies are also welcome to play here; On Thursday there is either individual golf or mixed foursomes on Gullane No.2. We have our usual supper and drinks parties arranged too. There is limited availability for the Scottish Tour and I request an email from you to potentially reserve your place if you have not already done so, mailto: As at 15 Feb I still have a few places left for this year’s tour – do email me

Tuesday 30 June 2020 OSGS / Sabrina Joint Meeting at Huntercombe Golf Club. Last year, very successfully, we made this an OSGS Meeting where you can invite a friend to play with you at Huntercombe. We play 18 holes of individual golf and then eat a lovely early evening buffet supper in the clubhouse and are joined by members of Sabrina and their wives, where we hear about the forthcoming Henley Regatta and the Shrewsbury crews. Huntercombe is one of the those slightly old fashioned golf courses that is a dream to play if you have not yet had this experience – so make a note of this date and bring a friend along to swell our numbers.

The Nottinghamshire Tour – Tuesday 14 July 2020 at Coxmoor GC in the afternoon and Wednesday 15 July 2020 at Hollinwell GC in the morning. This is a new Tour that I have set up this year and is limited to 12 players only. We will stay overnight at a local hotel and have dinner together. These are 2 great championship courses  and if you want to reserve your place please email me at your earliest convenience mail to: There are only 4 places left as I go to print today.

NEW  FIXTURE FOR 2020: Queen Elizabeth Cup played at Royal Burgess GC Edinburgh from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September 2020 The OSGS have been invited to enter a Team into this Foursomes Competition played in Scotland after a gap of some years. I am keen to hear from anyone who is interested in playing in this event this year. I hope we will be able to arrange a practice round at HCEG, Muirfield – to help the team get used to the Scottish weather! Email the Hon Sec:

I will publish the Matches on the website as soon as I finalise details / costs etc so that you can book into the events. They should all be live at at least 8 weeks in advance.

I look forward to seeing many of you at these and other meetings on our Fasti this year. If anybody has any questions or needs help accessing our website do get in touch with me or ring me

Best wishes
