OSGS V OSFC Foursomes Golf Match at Huntercombe Golf Club on Sunday 2 May 2021

The first meeting for the OSGS took place on Sunday 2 May 2021 at Huntercombe Golf Club, Oxfordshire, post the COVID Pandemic. This is only the third time that this fixture has been played – it was cancelled last year due to Covid so it was great to see so many Salopians gathered in one place and raring to go. On a bright and sunny day, post a bacon roll and coffee, we set out to do battle in the following matches with results shown.

OSGS Players                                       V                      OSFC Players

Alex Stewart & Peter Worth               V Richard McGarry & Campbell Naylor

James Butler & Nick Renton               V Rory Gittins & Will Moorcroft

Result: Match Halved

Tim Lewis & Will Painter                     V John Owen & Marcus Morris-Eyton

Simon Shepherd & John Parker          V Alex Gittins & Monty Flint

The overall result was a win for the OSGS which is the first time that the OSGS have beaten the OSFC! Post the golf everybody enjoyed “socially distanced socialising” and  tea and sandwiches. Tim Lewis, the retired Hon Sec, particularly enjoyed playing with the OSGS President Elect, Will Painter.

All those teams who won or halved their matches were presented with a sleeve of OSGS Logo Balls as prizes. CharlesHill, Hon Sec, received the Match Trophy from Richard McGarry ,President of the OSFC. The below photograph shows all those who played in the fixture with the current Hon Sec holding the Trophy sat next to the retired Hon Sec.

Thanks go to Huntercombe GC for allowing the OSGS to be their first visitors post the pandemic and the OSGS is looking forward to defending the Trophy next year.
