Come and play both the wonderful golf courses at Walton Heath Golf Club and help the OSGS to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shrewsbury’s win in the Halford Hewitt in 1980 at Deal!
In 1980, the Halford Hewitt side was captained by Peter Broad, who as a member of Walton Heath, invited members of the team to have a practice round there on the Tuesday before travelling onto Deal for this famous victory when Shrewsbury Beat Epsom in the Final 4 1/2 to 1/2.
It was felt that it was too far to go to Deal – so we will celebrate this famous victory at Walton Heath one of the world’s most highly regarded golf clubs, famous for its rich golfing and political history and the quality of its two exceptionally challenging heathland layouts, described by Jack Nicklaus as “wonderfully pure.” Both courses feature in the UK and Ireland’s Top 50 rankings. The Old has earned its place in the World’s Top 100 every year since the inception of the rankings in 1938. (The Old currently ranks 27 and the New ranks 51 in the Golf Monthly Top 100 Courses)
The Format off our Celebration Golf Day will be as follows:
9.00am – Arrive for tea/coffee – Golf Attire is acceptable in the Club House
10.00am – The Old Course – Four Balls
2.30pm – Three Course Carvery Lunch in Jacket & Tie & equivalent for ladies with Prizes
3.45pm – The New Course – 9 Holes Foursomes
5.45pm – Afternoon Tea served with Prizes
There will be a selection of special prizes through out the day.
I have sought to reduce the prices for this Celebratory Meeting, using OSGS Club Funds, as much as I can to encourage as many of you to attend that are able to.
(If there are any younger OSGS Members on the New Deal who wish to play in this Meeting and claim it as one of their free meetings – they are asked to email the Hon Sec direct at firstname.lastname@example.org)
